Vanessa, our local host, and the Wayuu community in La Guajira designed a special and unique activity that will allow you to experience and understand their culture in the most delightful way- by preparing and tasting the typical dishes from their region!
The experience will start at their Rancheria, where the native community will receive you with an introduction about their culture, wildlife, and vegetation and then you’ll be led to a hands-on Traditional Indigenous Cooking class, where you will learn about the process of preparing their traditional dish, Chivo con Bollo (goat meat with a native bun).
You will also get the opportunity to learn about the artisanal process of creating their local drink: Chirrinchi, known as the ” liquor of the dessert”. This beverage comes from the sugar cane or panela and it is a really important drink in the Wayuu culture as it makes part of special events and funerals.
The Wayuu community is the native Community of La Guajira, the largest indigenous population in Colombia. By purchasing this activity you are helping to over 200 young natives that are being supported by the non-profit organization, El Origen. This organization helps local young people in danger who are looking for studying opportunities and new ways of undertaking projects that have a positive impact on their community.
